Why should you take theatre?

The theatre program at Mt. Hebron High School consists of introductory and advanced level theatre classes. Theatre I is our introductory course that offers experience in performance and technical theatre and is open to anyone.The two advanced level classes are Musical Theatre Ensemble and Theatre Company. If you have previous theatre experience, you can audition to be placed in one of these advanced courses. 

Musical Theatre Ensemble : Grades 9,10,11,12 (Prerequisite: Theatre I or audition)
Musical Theatre Ensemble explores musicals and theatre processes from a variety of time periods and cultures. In this course, students collaborate as a production company working as directors, lyricists, composers, choreographers, actors, designers, and technicians on theatrical projects. Students in this course will get to participate in class project performances. There is a GT option for this course.

Theatre Company : Grades 9,10,11,12 (Prerequisite: Theatre I or audition)
Theatre Company explores plays and theatre processes from a variety of time periods and cultures. In this course, students collaborate as a production company working as directors, writers, actors, designers, and technicians on theatrical projects. Students in this course will get to participate in class project performances.   There is a GT option for this course.


Audition Requirements
Your audition performance should be filmed in a full body shot. Introduce your audition in the following manner:
“My name is ______________________ and I will be playing/singing (Character Name/ Song Title)  from (Show title) .”
Theatre Company Audition Requirements
  • Contemporary or classical monologue
  • Monologue must be from a published play
  • One to two minutes in length
Musical Theatre Ensemble Audition Requirements
  • Contemporary or classical solo song
  • Song must be from a Broadway show
  • One to two minutes in length
  • Instrumental or karaoke track should be played underneath song
